Greetings & Salutations! Welcome to my first blog entry.
I guess this is a good time to introduce myself, for people who are not familiar with my work, my name is Denny Kurien and I’m an independent creative maven residing and working in Downtown Toronto, Canada. I’m not too fond of titles, as I’ve worn many hats over the years; of these include Creative Director, Art Director, Designer, Illustrator, 3D & 2D Animator, and Interactive Media Savant.
In July 2008, I started my own creative boutique studio called DennyKurien.com offering services in advertising, design, illustration, broadcast animation, and interactive online marketing. I have a real passion for generating creative ideas. As history has proven, the power of advertising can do more than just create awareness or increase profits. It can inspire. It can influence. It can even change the fortunes of a brand on a global scale. Unfortunately, with the current economic recession, a lot of clients have slashed their marketing budgets, making it extremely difficult for creative people to get jobs.
One of the aims of this blog is to offer helpful insights and tips to other creative people who are struggling to find jobs. Whether you are a freelance commercial artist, Graphic Designer; or an Art Director / Copy-writer looking for a full-time job at an Ad Agency, hopefully there will be something here to help you.
Don’t think of IMPOSSIBLE, think of I’M POSSIBLE. Do not give up, ever. If you want to get in this business, if you are in love with advertising, if you are determined to get it done it will happen. This is one of the few careers in the world were getting in the business is quite possibly the hardest part of the entire career.
Keeping this in mind, I’ve also decided to reach out to other creatives in the city, and collaborate with them on various projects. Okay, so agencies may not be hiring, but that doesn’t mean we should stop producing good work. One of the initiatives I started at the beginning of the year was to create The Creative Advertising Guild of Toronto. It’s a professional and social meetup group for people who are into creative advertising in Toronto. Our goal is to meetup once a month, share ideas, network with other creative professionals. This is a platform for Creative Directors, Art-Directors, Copy-writers, Designers, Strategic Planners, students, creative entrepreneurs, or anyone interested in the creative advertising industry here in Toronto.
